Major-General Mark E. McQuillan, CD
MGen Mark El McQuillan enrolled in the Canadian Forces in 1977. In 1981, he graduated from the Royal Canadian Military College in Kingston, Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in Economics and Commerce.
Commissioned into the Logistics Branch, his early tours included both finance and Supply positions with 1 Service Battalion in Calgary, Alberta and 4 Service Battalion in Lahr, West Germany which was followed by a tour with the Canadian Airborne Regiment as the Regimental Logistics Officer. Promoted to Major in 1989, he initially worked in a staff position at Mobile Command Headquarters in St-Hubert which was followed by Company Command within 1 Service Battalion.
In 1997, LCol McQuillan assumed command of 1 Service Battalion in Edmonton. While commanding the Battalion he deployed with elements of his unit as Commanding Officer for the National Support Element in support of the Canadian Contingent to NATO’s Stabilization Force in Bosnia. In 2000, he was promoted to Colonel and posted to the Land Staff Comptroller position at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. In July 2002, he was appointed Commander, 1 Area Support Group in Edmonton, supporting the land forces within Land Force Western Area.
Upon promotion to BGen in 2005, was appointed Canadian Forces Liaison Officer to United States Northern Command, following which he was appointed Deputy Director Plans, Policy and Strategy Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. Returning to Ottawa in 2007 he assumed the responsibilities of Deputy Chief of Staff for the Materiel Group. MGen McQuillan was appointed to his current rank on May 27, 2009. He is now appointed as the Commander, Canadian Operational Support Command.
MGen McQuillan is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Command of Staff College and the National Defense University’s Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
